Why Visit Serengeti
The Great Migration
Witness one of nature’s greatest spectacles – the annual Great Migration. Over 1.5 million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles move across the plains in search of fresh grazing, with dramatic river crossings at the Mara and Grumeti Rivers.
Big Five & Predators
The Serengeti is home to the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino – along with the world’s largest lion population and incredible predator action.
Diverse Landscapes
Explore breathtaking scenery, from endless golden savannahs and rocky kopjes to acacia woodlands and river valleys teeming with wildlife.
Photography Paradise
Capture iconic African sunsets, dramatic predator hunts, and vast herds on the move – Serengeti is a dream come true for photographers.
Year-Round Destination
No matter when you visit, Serengeti offers unforgettable experiences – calving season in the south, river crossings in the north, and abundant wildlife throughout the year.
Best Time to Visit Serengeti
December – March — Calving Season (South)
A magical time when thousands of wildebeest give birth across the southern plains. Predators are active and young animals attract intense wildlife activity — excellent for witnessing dramatic life-and-death scenes and abundant predator sightings.
June – July — Mara River Crossings (North)
One of the most spectacular wildlife events: mass herds cross the Mara and Grumeti rivers. Expect heart-stopping river crossings and high predator activity — prime time for dramatic photography.
August – October — Northern Migration & Peak Viewing
The migration concentrates in the northern Serengeti (near the Kenya border). Clear skies, dry roads, and concentrated game make this a top choice for classic safari experiences and river-crossing action.
November — Green Season Begins
Short rains begin and the landscape turns lush and green. Fewer tourists, lower prices, and beautiful scenery—great for birdwatching, newborn animals, and a quieter safari experience.
