Yellow Fever Vaccination
Yellow Fever Vaccination Requirements for Tanzania & Zanzibar
At Matiya Tours & Safaris, your health, safety, and comfort are our top priorities. To help you prepare for your journey, here’s everything you need to know about Yellow Fever vaccination before traveling to Tanzania or Zanzibar.
🦟 Do You Need a Yellow Fever Vaccination?
-
No vaccination is required for travelers arriving directly from non-risk countries, such as the USA, Europe, Canada, and most parts of Asia.
-
Vaccination is required for travelers coming from or transiting through Yellow Fever–endemic countries — for example, parts of Africa and South America.
-
If you are transiting through an endemic country for less than 12 hours and do not leave the airport, no vaccination certificate is needed.
📜 Certificate of Vaccination
-
Travelers arriving from risk areas must present a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate upon entry into Tanzania.
-
Failure to present a valid certificate may result in entry denial, or you may be vaccinated upon arrival and placed under health observation for up to 10 days.
💉 When to Get Vaccinated
-
The Yellow Fever vaccine is administered as a single dose, which should be received at least 10 days before travel.
-
One dose provides lifetime protection against the virus.
-
If you are medically exempt (for example, under 1 year old, over 60 years old, or with specific health conditions), carry a doctor’s exemption certificate.
-
In case of symptoms such as fever, headache, or muscle and joint pain after exposure, seek medical attention immediately.
🏝 Traveling Between Mainland Tanzania & Zanzibar
Good news — if you are traveling between mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, you do not need to present a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate. Zanzibar is part of the United Republic of Tanzania, so movement between the two is considered domestic travel.
